The San Leandro Sports Foundation (SLSF) was founded in 2009 as a non-profit corporation with 501(c )(3) tax-exempt status (Fed. I.D. # 26-3679203). SLSF is an ALL volunteer organization, comprised of local business people, parents, teachers and concerned community members.
In 2010, the San Leandro Sports Foundation spearheaded the effort to rebuild the aging athletic facilities in the San Leandro School District ( The Pacific Sports Complex including Burrell Stadium and adjacent baseball and soccer fields and the High School Swimming Pool and baseball diamonds completed in the spring of 2013). And, over years, SLSF successfully partnered with the City of San Leandro and the School District on fundraising events such as our Walk-A-Thon and Team Challenge, Run for the Schools, Spaghetti Feeds and multiple other events. We restarted the iconic City Wide Youth Track and Field Meet and in 2016 started the San Leandro Sports Foundation Sports Hall of Fame and in October 2016 held our SLSF Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. These events galvanized community support for school programs and helped raise thousands of dollars for under-funded K-12 health and fitness programs in our schools.
San Leandro values its community public assets; particularly it’s public schools. SLSF successful partnership with SLUSD is a testament to the determination of the citizens of San Leandro to improve their Schools and health and fitness facilities for the good of all.
The mission of the San Leandro Sports Foundation is to support and improve physical fitness programs, help maintain existing athletic facilities, and advocate for the development of new athletic facilities in and around the community of San Leandro, California.
The guiding principle of the SLSF is that supporting health and fitness programs and their accompanying infrastructure will encourage more of our youth and adults to play and exercise, creating a healthier and happier community.
