San Leandro’s very own Burrell Field is hosting its first ever North Coast Section Championship football game tonight. NCS Division III powerhouses El Cerrito and Marin Catholic will mix it up at the brand new Sports Stadium. El Cerrito (11-2) is looking to avenge last year championship game loss to Marin Catholic (12-0) for its first ever NSC Football Championship. The Marin Catholic needs a win to stay in the hunt for a CIF STATE playoff bid.
The Pacific Sports Complex and Burrell Field were completely rebuilt with funds from Measure M which San Leandro voters approved 2010. The new Sports Complex was completed in June of this year, just in time for San Leandro High School graduation ceremony. The San Leandro High School Pirates use Burrell Field as their home field and opened the 2013 football season in their new stadium with a win over Valley Christian (Dublin).
