Carter, Cantrell and Smyers-Jones

March 30, 2013 – Stanford Invitational.  The best runners from around the State, and some from neighboring states, gathered at beautiful Angell Field at Stanford University to compete in  Northern California’s top Track and Field Invitational.  San Leandro High’s Christian Carter, Gabriella Cantrella, and Kortni Smyers-Jones all had excellent performance, proving that the Pirates can run with the best of them.

Christian Carter ran second to Heritage’s Frank Kurtz in a monster 400 that saw 7 boys run below 49s. Kurtz ran the fastest time in the State at 47.32, and no wonder, Carter was pushing him all the way with a 47.94, the 2nd best time in the state this year. Carter also anchored the Pirates 4 x 400 catching two teams on the home stretch to gain  a 3rd place finish.

Gabriella Cantrella continued her dominance in the 100m with an easy win over a tough 100 meter field with a time of 11.96. Gabby has one of the top times in the State. She also ran on leg on the 4 x 400 team.

Kortni Smyers-Jones, Star Hurdler and Jumper for SL Pirates

Kortni Smyers-Jones beat rival Patty Perry of Vacaville to win 100 the High Hurdles with at time of 14.37. Kortni avenged her defeat in the semis to Perry by running an error free race. Kornti has one of the top times in the State this year.
