Devonne Simmons, F/S League Champion
May 4th, 2013, Piedmont High School. Twelve schools and more then 200 student/athletes all met at Piedmont High School on Saturday to vie for the inaugural WACC Frosh /Soph League Championship. For Sophomore Devonne Simmons, a first year hurdler, it was an epic day. Devonne won both hurdle races by a wide margin. Showing power and grace Devonne negotiated the 110 high hurdles in under 20s and with speed and endurance swept to victory in the 300 Intermediates Hurdles with a fine time of 45.77.
Devonne is a good student who is particularly interested in science. He likes to read in his spare time, and his favorite subjects are unsolved mysteries (like UFOs) and strange earthly phenomena (like “crop circles”). He is also trying out a vegetarian diet, and to celebrate his success this day he chowed down on a tofu dog!
