The Varsity Baseball Team returned late Wed night from our 3 day road trip to play in the Atwater Lions Easter Tournament. We hit the road at 6:30 Mon morning, went to Elio’s Restaurant for a team breakfast and took the 2 hour drive straight to Memorial Park in Atwater for game 1. After beating Minarets HS from Fresno 6-2, we drove to Modesto to check into the Clarion Inn. Dinner that night was at the Hometown Buffet where we watched in amazement as plate after plate were devoured by 17 boys.
We had the early game Tuesday morning vs St Mary’s HS. In a well played game, St Mary’s came out on top 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th. That night we took the boys to Outback Steakhouse where we had a very nice dinner in our own private room. Wednesday we had a 4:00 game vs Moreau Catholic HS and a 7:00 game vs Atwater HS. We didn’t play well against Moreau and got beat 7-3. We faced a good challenge to bounce right back against a very good Atwater team. In a back and forth game, we came out on top 10-8 to finish the tournament with a record of 2-2.
There were many baseball highlights in our 4 games by many different players. Our goal was to play well, but more importantly to enjoy the experience of being together for 3 days on the road. I am very proud of the way we represented SLHS and our families. The boys looked great in their collared shirts at our team meals and showed very good manners everywhere we went.
We return to league play On Wed to continue our quest for a league championship. We are currently 5-0 in league play, and 10-3 overall.
