The San Leandro Sports Foundation has raised thousands of dollars for health and fitness programs in SLUSD. The SLSF fundraising philosophy is to organize large, fun, family oriented events with the aim to be as inclusive as possible, and still raise money.
In 2011, we also hosted a “Celebrating Burrell Field, The Next Chapter” (view Channel 2 TV video) alumni flag football game between Pacific High and San Leandro High featuring players from the ’50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s. It was the last game ever to be played on the old ball field, and despite the heavy rain, it was a huge success.
The Sports Foundation lead the charge for Measure M which was approved by voters in 2010 to rebuild The Pacific Sports Complex, the SLHS field and swimming complex (see Channel 7 video) and other health and fitness facility around the District.
Individual donations account for about 30% of our revenue. The bulk of our fundraising monies come from Event Sponsors. Our local businesses have been very generous in sponsoring our events. We believe that the greatest good the Foundation can do at this time is to continue to raise money for K-12 sports, and health and fitness Programs. The monies that we donate to the school Programs are used for basic operational expenses, and not for facility improvement or equipment.
