The new track and field at San Leandro High School opened today for the Pirate Track & Field Team. The new field, built by funding from School Bond Measure M and the voters of San Leandro, will give the High School an all weather playing surface for sports teams and physical education classes. Measure M also provided for new equipment to furnish the site: hurdles, starting blocks, high jump pads and standards, pole vault pads and standards and poles, starting gun, and carts to move the equipment around. All the equipment necessary to finally host a track meet at the High School.
The swimming pool and baseball diamonds are still under construction, and if the new track and field are any indication, these new facilities will be absolutely outstanding.
