Measure M

The community’s successful passage of Measure M, the $50.1 million school facilities bond passed by San Leandro voters in November 2010, set in motion the renovation of health and fitness facilities across the San Leandro Unified School District. Two “marquee” projects will be started this spring—the renovation of Burrell Field and the re-build to the High School swimming pool and sports fields.

Construction on Burrell Field (aka the Pacific Sports Complex) will start in May 2012. The old ball field, built in 1963, as part of Pacific High School, and renamed Burrell Field in 1967, served as the Vikings home field for 20 years. For three decades, it has been the home field of the San Leandro High School Pirates. The beloved but worn out old sports complex will be torn down and a new facility will be built to serve the needs of future generations of San Leandrans.

Also starting this spring is the construction on the new San Leandro High School swimming pool—and just in time since the Alameda County Health Dept. condemned the old swimming pool in 2009 and its forced closure was eminent.  The adjacent football field and baseball diamonds will also get a complete makeover.
