Pirates Excel at St. Francis Invitational

March 16th, 2013. Mt. View, CA. The San Leandro Pirates track and field team turned in some pretty good performances Saturday at the St. Francis Invitational. Facing stiff competition from Central Coast Section teams, the Pirates pulled out several big wins.

In the Varsity P1000729Men’s division, Christian Carter continued his dominance of the 400 with an easy win over a strong field of quartermiles.  Christian blazed a 48.61 to win by 10 meters. Christian has not lost a race this year. In the 300 intermediate hurlder, Courtney Bazile ran a fine time of 41.74 to place in the top 10. Pirates 4 x 400 kept the stick close enough for Carter, running anchor, to smoke by the leaders and bring home the gold in a time of 3.28.29.

The Frosh/Soph boys excelled as well. Ricari Davis, in his first ever 60 meter High Hurdle race, came in 5th overall with a fine time of 10.14. Davis also place 7th in the 300 IH with a school record of 45.44.

In the Varsity Women’s division, Kortni Symers-Jones running her first 300 IH of the year won going away with a great time of 45. 81 Symers-Jones currently hold the 3rd fasting time in the High Hurdles, her speciality. Gariella Cantrell place 2nd in a very fast heat with a time of 11.90. The winner of the heat ran 11.77 for the fastest time in the State this year.
