March 2nd 2013. Christian Carter and Nijae Jones posted State bests in the 400m at the prestigious Sacramento Classic at Sacramento State University. Christian had an outstanding double in the 200 and 400 with great early season times of 22.14 and 48.55. Nijae sprinted in the last 300m to win her 1500 heat and then exploded in the 400 with a 56.52.
Gabby Cantrell and Kortni Smyers-Jones also had excellent performances. Gabby won both 100m and 200m in 12.02 and 24.82, both time rank her 2nd in the State. Kortni ran 2nd in her 100 HH race with a time of 14.45 that’s 2nd in the State (behind the winner of this race), she won the long jump with a state leading leap of 17’03” to lead the State.
The Boys had several other outstanding performances. Courtney Bazile place 5th in the 110 HH and 4th the 300 IH, just missing out on medaling. The Boys 4×400 was the most exciting race of the day, a strong 2nd leg by Courtney Bazile and an outstanding anchor leg, a 47.5 split, by Christian Carter almost pulled out a victory.
