Varsity Baseball sweeps Alameda and Berkeley

Pitching and defense continue to help the team win close games. On Wed, Kevin Nava threw 7 innings of 2 hit ball and Ptah Asabi threw 3 shutout innings as we beat a very good Alameda HS team 2-1 in 10 innings. In the bottom of the 10th, Diego Rojas led off with a double, was bunted to 3rd by Ruben Ceja and scored on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Jake Ruiz.

Against Berkeley HS on Fri, Tim Mahanay turned in his 2nd consecutive strong performance in throwing a 79 pitch, 8 inning shutout as we won another extra inning thriller 1-0. Jon Perez led off the 8th with a single, was balked to second, and moved to 3rd on a sacfifice bunt by Manny Ramirez. Ruben Ceja then drove him in with a solid single to left field for the only run of the game. The defense was outstanding for the week led by the solid work behind the plate by Jake Ruiz. The team is now 7-1 overall and 4-0 in league play.

The Junior Varsity split their games, beating Alameda HS and losing a tough one to Berkeley HS 4-3. Freshman Bradley Beesley continues to impress at the plate, on defense and on the mound.
